Ford’s 1941 models underwent a complete redesign. Gone was the “pointed prow” that had characterized the make since 1937, replaced with what designer E.T. Gregorie called a more “horizontal effect,” in tune with what other automakers were using. The wheelbase was stretched to 114-inches and the bodies were made smoother with higher fender lines, the effect most pronounced on the coupe and convertible. Ford now had three series, Special, Deluxe and Super Deluxe. The Convertible Coupe was offered only as a Super Deluxe model.

An older restoration, this 1941 Ford Convertible Coupe still presents well in Ford’s Mayfair Maroon. Contours, paint and brightwork are all very good; the red leatherette upholstery is very nice. Only the front floor mats show wear. The dashboard has restored woodgrain. The steering wheel, however, exhibits a small crack.

Equipment includes a correct Ford radio with retractable windshield header antenna, heater, electric clock, dual cowl-mounted exterior mirrors, a windshield post spotlight and Unity foglights mounted on the front bumper. The taillights have blue dot lenses, a nice period touch.

The engine compartment is well detailed, the engine itself being a 69T-series, a 239-cid powerplant used in postwar trucks. It was rebuilt by Central Precision, Ltd., in Toronto. The undercarriage shows considerable use and some surface rust, but is entirely solid. The tires are Firestone Deluxe Champion wide whitewalls, in the correct 6.00 – 16 size, but showing some age.

A very nice example of an iconic Ford V-8, this car will find favor with many collectors.
