After many accolades for their excellent small-block overhead valve V-8 in 1955 and making further improvements for 1956, Chevrolet pulled out all of the stops for 1957. The 265 cubic inch V-8 engine was bored out to 283-cid and was offered with Rochester fuel injection, a first for a lower-priced car. Two versions were offered; one with 9.5:1 compression, good for 250-hp and a 10.5:1 edition that achieved one horsepower per cubic inch.

This Bel Air convertible is reported to be confirmed by documentation, including the original handwritten sales contract to have been factory equipped with the rare FJ Automatic transmission and fuel-injected 283-cid V-8. As offered, it clearly continues to benefit from a high-quality ground-up restoration that was completed in 2011. This example was originally a California car and also features power top, steering and brakes; automatic transmission, AM radio, tissue dispenser, dual antennas, factory spinner hubcaps and clock. It is finished in the rare and desirable color combination of Colonial Cream with a matching interior with silver inserts and a black soft-top. The factory Continental kit is included with the sale; however, it is not currently fitted to the car and will be shipped to the successful bidder at their cost. The Bel Air has recently been professionally detailed and remains in exceptional condition throughout, including the undercarriage.
