In 1982, racing sponsor Mansour Ojjeh requested a road legal 935 Porsche. He was quickly denied with the explanation that the 935 was not legal to drive on public roads. So to satisfy this customer’s wishes, they took a production Turbo Porsche and modified it to closely match the 935; as much as it was possible. After building this special car, Porsche realized right away that there was a market for the ‘Slantnose’ option. This new option was given the code designation of M505. While some of the purists thought that it ruined the classic and desirable lines of the 911, today it has become one of the most collectable variants of the 911 Turbo.
In 1983 Porsche’s repair department offered the option on newly ordered vehicles, the changes were executed on the raw body shell, which would retain Porsche’s anti-corrosion warranty. This option was only available for the 911 Turbo at a cost of $23,244. The options included: sloped front fenders, retractable headlamps and air vents to ensure efficient air-cooling for the brakes and engine.
This 1988 Porsche Slantnose (option M505) is 1 of 112 produced in cabriolet form in 1988. It is completed with Guards Red paint with matching painted Fuch wheels and a complementing black Haartz top. The interior is tailored with black leather upholstery, in-dash radio, power windows and air conditioning. Sitting in the rear is the powerful turbocharged, 3,299-cc flat six-cylinder engine. The engine from the factory made 282 horsepower; and is equipped with Bosch fuel injection. Completing this extremely rare and desirable Porsche Slantnose are the books and tool kit.
