The Porsche 356 did not change much through its production. It did receive nuances and facelifts but nothing major. In 1960 the bumper placement and placement of the headlights were raised to meet U.S. requirements. At the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963, the Porsche 356C was introduced. With this new model the old drum brakes were replaced with four-wheel disc brakes. This new change to the chassis was a welcome change since the top speeds pushed 115-mph. Three different configurations were offered: the ‘C’ which had 75-hp, the ‘SC’ which had 95-hp and the Carrera 2 which was adequately equipped with 130-hp.
The SC marked Porsche’s highest evolution of the 356 Series prior to embarking on the next major accomplishment, the 911. Porsche enthusiasts agree that there truly is no better driving 356 than an SC model. They are wonderfully balanced, proportioned and powered and are perpetually sought after. It is estimated that only 588 Porsche 356 Cabriolets were produced for this model year.
