Buick’s new styling for 1939 exhibited smooth contours, highlighted by a harp-shaped “waterfall” grille. Exceptionally beautiful in stock form, it is only enhanced by the custom touches endowed upon this car. Most obvious are the lowered stance and Halibrand chrome wheels, the latter shod with Sumitomo HTRZ radials, 17-inches in front and 18 at the rear. The wheels and grille comprise the only brightwork, the bumpers being done in body color, with parking lights inserted into the front bar and taillights in the rear.

Painted in metallic gray, it has slate gray leather upholstery in a pleated pattern, all in very good condition. The convertible top is black canvas. The dashboard retains its original Buick character, with a modern gauge cluster, bearing AutoMeter instruments, in the driver’s line of vision. A center dashboard compartment, with drop-down lid, hides a modern audio system. It has a tilt steering column with a modern banjo wheel in the Buick idiom; the car is equipped with air conditioning and power windows.

Power comes from a port-injected 350-cid aluminum-head Corvette V-8, its valve covers engraved “Buick Roadmaster.” The transmission is General Motors’ indestructible 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic. Power disc brakes are fitted all around, and the suspension has been modified to an Air Ride Technologies system. A Flowmaster exhaust system is fitted.

Built in 2001 in Nebraska, it is professionally customized and exquisitely built. It was named a Top Ten Street Ride at Goodguys in Fort Worth, Texas, and Coolest Street Rod at Goodguys in Kansas. Power, convenience and good looks: who could ask for more?
