In the 1950s, Americans expected a luxury car to be weighed down by chrome, set off by a high contrast two-tone paint scheme and space age inspired styling elements. In contrast, the Continental Mark II was a long and low car with proportions similar to the first generation Thunderbird while paying homage to the Continental of the 1940s with the trunk lid molded to the shape of the spare tire concealed within.

Under the four-point star mounted on the hood, which would later become the Lincoln emblem, rested a 300 horsepower, 368-cid V-8 and a Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. Predominantly handmade, the Mark II was a product of exceptional craftsmanship. Only the very finest materials were used throughout and the instrumentation displayed the precision of a finely crafted watch.

The Mark II offered here is reported by the current owner to be a 50,890 actual mile, two-owner car that runs with its correct drivetrain and has been professionally restored. The body was repainted in Starmist White after being stripped to bare metal, while the interior features new upholstery on the seats and door panels, as the remainder is seen in its original state. Among the many standard features are tachometer and full instrumentation, AM radio, electric clock, dual exhaust, full wheel covers; power seat, windows, vent windows, steering and brakes.

This Mark II is further equipped with factory air conditioning, it does need servicing to properly operate, but is notable as the only option available for this model in 1957 and quite few in number. Less than 450 examples of the Continental Mark II were produced in 1957, making the last year of the Continental Mark II the rarest of an already scarce collectible.
