The Racers

A lovely bronze depicting George Robertson at full speed in his 1908 Locomobile “Old 16” in the Vanderbilt Cup Race. Wanlass cleverly flipped the 16 on the hood of the Locomobile to read as 91, referring to the astounding speeds Robertson achieved in the car. Consequently, the Locomobile was clocked on several occasions as being in excess of 100 mph on dirt roads and was seen many times with all four wheels in the air. This beautiful sculpture is mounted on a walnut base and is notably one of Wanlass’ earlier examples. Dated in 1978, it is number 27 of 30, and measures 25-inches long.
