The 1954 Corvette was built at a newly renovated facility located in St. Louis, Missouri. This model year was crucial in the survival of the car and its ongoing development. Being a "sports car" without a manual transmission caused the car to have somewhat of an identity crisis compared with competing cars of the era. Today these cars are firmly defined as true collectibles; this example is one of the best you may possibly find, being frame-off restored in a nut-and-bolt fashion.
The early Corvette is known for its sensational style, outstanding performance and its low center of gravity producing a fine-handling machine. The Corvette has a 235-cid, 155-hp inline Blue Flame six-cylinder engine that produced 150 horsepower and is mated to a Powerglide, two-speed automatic transmission; dual exhaust was also standard on this model. To go along with the popular Polo White, three new exterior colors were introduced in 1954: Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red and Black.
Of the 3,640 total Corvette production for 1954, only 300 were finished in Pennant Blue as seen on this exceptional car. It has Beige interior, AM radio, and is extraordinarily equipped with the original factory hardtop that has all of the rare hardware components along with it. The hardware is reported as “extremely rare” and is made even more difficult to procure as it is not reproduced by any known vendors. If these elements are found for purchase, the interested owner conveys that it constitutes a $2,500 minimum investment. The car is further enhanced by having the plexiglass and gasket to the window. The original side curtains are found in the trunk storage area. To top it off, the Corvette is accompanied by a box of documents and records.
As proclaimed by Chevrolet in period promotion the Corvette was the “first of the dream cars to come true!” Wake up from your personal Corvette dream with this outstanding example.
