Sculptor, designer, and painter Stanley Wanlass is known for his limited-edition automotive bronze sculptures that echo a deep love for automobiles, which he has collected, restored, and raced since the mid-fifties—from early Alfas, Bugattis, and Brooklands racecars to Indy cars, Ferraris, and '32 Ford roadsters. His automotive sculptures and paintings are with the most prestigious museums and private collections worldwide.
This bronze on walnut base is number 17 of 30 released in 1984. It depicts a shapely Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B in motion. The billowing hair and scarf of the driver, as well as the fur of her four-legged companion in the passenger seat, convey a sense of speed and dynamism that Wanless’ work is known for. The sculpture measures 40 inches by 15 inches by 10.5 inches.
