Pontiac let readers know in 1967 literature that GTO could also be an acronym for “The Great One” instead of its true meaning in Italian, Gran Turismo Omologato, which translates to “officially certified for racing in the grand tourer class”. They forwarded that the interest in such a car would make you aware of an “almost uncontrollable urge to plant yourself behind the wheel of one of these automotive masterpieces.”

This is a fine example to satisfy these urges. It is powered by a 400-cid, 335-hp V-8 engine that is matched to a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in burgundy with a black interior, the GTO has been with the same owner for 26 years and has been restored. The restoration utilized the cars original interior, carpet and headliner. Among the other features listed are tilt wheel, woodgrain steering wheel, vacuum gauge, Rally I wheels, Posi-traction rear end, deluxe seatbelts, shoulder belts, rear defroster, rear speaker switch, headrests, reclining passenger seat, remote chromed driver’s rearview mirror, chromed passenger rearview mirror, exhaust tips, door edge guards, tinted glass; power antenna, trunk release, seats, steering and brakes.
