Constructed as the 148th example of only 200 250 GT Series II Cabriolets built, chassis number 2943 GT was completed in October of 1961 and destined for Ferrari’s home market of Italy. It was originally finished in Rosso Maio (MM 12441) over a Nero interior in Vinyl and Connolly leather. According to records provided by marque historian Marcel Massini, the car was sold new to a company registered in Bergamo via M. Gastone Crepaldi Automobili, the official Ferrari dealership in Milan. Initially registered in Bergamo and later re-registered in Milan by a subsequent owner, the car was later exported from Italy to Germany when it was purchased by Prince Joachim Zu Fürstenberg, who resided at Castle Donaueschingen, located in the Baden-Württemberg state of Germany.
In 1973, the Series II Cabriolet was sold via the Düsseldorf-based Ferrari importer Auto-Becker to Ola J. Borge of Norway. Upon arriving in Norway, the Ferrari was very much treated as Borge’s prized possession and only driven on special occasions. It would remain in the Borge family for the following forty years, accumulating less than 1,200 km per year on average over that time. In 2013, the car was sold to Matt LeBreton who lived on England’s south coast, and it was exported to the UK. Finished in dark green over a black interior at his time of purchase, at the time it was said that the car had been well looked after but had not been run for at least four years.
Upon his purchase, LeBreton decided that the car would be fully restored and commissioned the Ferrari specialists at Barkaways in Tonbridge, UK to perform the restoration. He chose a charming burgundy over tan colour scheme, a perfect match for the model’s sophisticated character. Following the completion of the restoration, the car was shown at Salon Privé in 2015 where it won its class, attesting to the quality of the restoration. After being featured in the magazine Auto Italia in their issue #255, published in May 2017, the car was granted Classiche certification, confirming that it retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork. Acquired by the current owner approximately five years ago, the car returned home to Italy where it resides today.
With the current owner, chassis no. 2943 GT has been well looked after and preserved since his purchase. Most notably, it was used in the Driver’s Parade of the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, chauffeuring Ferrari’s own Charles Leclerc around the circuit for fans to catch a glimpse of their favourite driver at Ferrari’s home race. Importantly, the car is accompanied by its original factory hardtop, painted to match the bodywork, as well as its history file, Classiche binder, and a tool kit.
Presented in fantastic condition throughout, this 250 GT Cabriolet Series II needs nothing thanks to its top-notch restoration and exceptional upkeep by its current custodian. A fantastic Ferrari that would be an ideal entrant for concours events or driven as its manufacturers intended, a plethora of exciting opportunities awaits the next owner of this spectacular car.
