Added to Ferrari’s model range at the Paris Motor Show in November 1973, the Dino 308 GT4 was the marque’s first car with a mid-engine V-8 layout, and the first Ferrari with a Bertone-designed body. European customers would find the 255 horsepower 3.0-litre V-8 engine under the bonnet, with gears shifted via a five-speed manual transmission. The sharp lines and wedge-like shape contrasted with the flowing curves of the earlier Dino-badged 246 GT, providing Ferrari with an angular 2+2 coupé to face off against the Lamborghini Urraco—one of the Dino’s main competitors and, incidentally, another a mid-engine V-8 sports car designed by Bertone.
This Dino 308 GT4 was produced in June 1974 and delivered to its first French owner later that year—the Pozzi import tag still in the engine attests to this—originally finished in the dazzling colour combination of Marrone Metallizzato over a Beige leather and cloth interior. Monsieur Petitjean purchased this Dino 308 GT4 in 1996 from a meticulous Ferrari enthusiast. At the time of purchase the car retained its original interior but had been repainted in the shade of blue exhibited today. This Dino 308 GT4 has remained on static display in Monsieur Petitjean’s collection for the past 25 years, it will require recommissioning prior to use.
