240 bhp, 2,926 cc DOHC 90-degree 32-valve V-8 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension with A-arms, coil springs, and telescopic shocks, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 2,650 mm
The original Ferrari Mondial was a two-litre sports racing car. Only 39 were produced between 1954 and 1956, and the Scaglietti-bodied cars were fitted with the Scuderia’s Formula Two engine. The name was resurrected in the final incarnation of Ferrari’s massively successful 308 range. The Mondial 8 was introduced in 1980, replacing the 308 GT/4. It initially utilised the two-valve, fuel-injected version of Ferrari’s three-litre V-8 engine until 1982, when it was fitted with the four-valve engine and became the Mondial QV (quattrovalvole).
The Ferrari Mondial QV presented here, chassis number 48643, is finished in traditional Rosso Corsa and trimmed with a rare black leather and Zegna interior, with matching headlining. The car has spent its entire life in the region around Maranello with two owners in the same town of Castello di Serravalle. Early servicing on the car was carried out by the famous Autofficina Sauro and more recently by Maranello Service S.r.l. The odometer shows just over 38,000 kilometres, which are believed original, and the QV’s condition reflects the care of its two previous owners. Most recently, the service book records a timing belt service in October 2015.
In ultimate QV form, the Ferrari Mondial is a luxurious, high-performance sports car, but it is also an eminently practical and spacious 2+2. It is rare to find such a low-mileage, matching-numbers example in original condition and, unusually, one which has spent its entire life a mere 30 kilometres from the factory!
