Massimo Tamburini was a mastermind of motorcycle design. Among the Italian’s finest creations were the Cagiva Mito, Ducati 916, and MV Agusta F4. The small-yet-fast Mito gave a generation of young riders their first taste of true performance; the 916 is regarded as one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever built; and the F4 inspired MV Agusta’s revitalisation in the late-1990s. The brand had a newfound energy following its acquisition by the Castiglioni family, of Cagiva and Ducati fame, and under the new management Tamburini was trusted with plans for a modern sports bike. The engineer worked on the F4 at the Cagiva Research Center, almost immediately after his involvement with the now legendary Ducati 916.
The superbike, in both 750- and 998 cc-guise, was met with instant acclaim. It was known for its racer-like attributes, while still being controllable for use on public roads. In 2005, some seven years into the lifecycle of the popular F4, Tamburini was honoured by Claudio Castiglioni, then boss of MV Agusta. The company head paid tribute to the visionary designer by announcing the F4 1000 Tamburini. Limited to just 300 examples, the special edition was made with carbon fibre fairing, and the top speed was rated at over 300 km/h.
This example presents in fine form, with a mere 146 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, and is offered for sale with a matching-colours Arai helmet, motorcycle cover, and paddock stand.
