In 1994, Ferrari unveiled the final iteration of its famed Testarossa, the F512 M, or Modificata, Italian for “modified.” In an effort to give a proper send-off to its last production mid-engined flat-12 model, Ferrari updated the design and complemented the F512 M with more power than its predecessor, the 512 TR. The F512 M is best recognized by its exposed headlights, redesigned oval grille, and more unified five-slat rear section. Much like the Testarossa it is based on, the car retained the classic slatted side intakes, while also featuring new and improved, skewed five-spoke wheels, a fitting cue for the F512 M.

Over the course of 23 years, Ferrari had stayed true to its flat-12 configuration when designing its flagship model. As the final evolution of its kind, Ferrari installed an updated 4.9-liter engine. Now utilizing new titanium connecting rods and a redesigned crankshaft, the improved engine produced 440 bhp at 6,750 rpm and 370 foot-pounds of torque at 5,500 rpm. While top speed remained the same at 195 mph, the car’s near 50/50 weight distribution and lighter internal components made it a better driving experience all around.

This F512 M offered is a superb example of the model. Described by the consignor as “both handsome and sinister,” it is a fitting final salutation to the Testarossa family, finished in stunning Nero over a beige leather interior. The car was most recently serviced at 14,325 miles, during which time the timing belt was replaced, as were the nuisance “sticky” buttons. Currently with just over 15,640 original miles, the car remains in excellent condition throughout. The F512 M also retains its original owner’s manual and tool kit.

Complemented by its potent flat-12 engine, the 512 M will live on as one of the all-time great Ferrari production cars. This is an exceptional single-owner example and one of only 75 produced for the U.S.
