The Dodge 1-1/2-ton, 6x6 WC63 (WC62 without winch) was an elongated version of the WC51/52 weapons carrier truck. The WC63 was designed to supplement the 2-1/2-ton series trucks due to the heavy production demands (time and cost) of the 2-1/2-ton trucks. The WC63 was more economical to produce due to the shared components with the WC 51/52 3/4-ton series. The principal distinction from the WC 51/52 series was the addition of the extra axle and lengthening of the frame and body, thus raising the load capacity to 3,000-pounds (3,300 plus-pounds, including driver and assistant) versus the 1,800-pounds of the 3/4-ton series. The low-profile, superior cross-country capability and enlarged cargo area made the Dodge 1-1/2-ton truck popular with the towed anti-tank gun companies of the US Army. The WC63 was capable of comfortably towing the standard US Army 57-mm or 3-inch anti-tank gun, as well the crew and ammunition. The WC63 was identical to the WC62 except for the addition of a front bumper mounted, 5,000 pound capacity winch. Over 43,000 Dodge WC62/63s were manufactured by 1945. The WC63 was used on all fronts and theatres by US forces during World War II.
