The vehicle being offered, M43B1 3/4-ton Ambulance, serial number 17501, was built in February 1965. It is an older restoration and is overall very good shape. The exterior paint is good. The interior paint is very good. All instruments and driver's controls function normally. The litter compartment is in excellent condition with the seats and fold down litters in very good to excellent condition. The vehicle runs and drives well. The tires are in good shape with the spare tire being in very good shape.
The M43B1 was the ambulance version of the G-741 series (M37) 3/4-ton trucks. The M43B1 was built on a 126-inch wheelbase chassis, which was longer than the standard M37 (112-inch). The steel ambulance body of the M43B1 incorporated the litter compartment with the driver's compartment. Two doors at the rear of the litter compartment allowed access to it. Swing-down litters were mounted on each side of the compartment. Multiple lights and a heating/ventilation system were provided for the litter compartment as well. Production of the M43B1 began in 1959 and ended in 1968.
The M43B1 remained in service with the U.S. military into the late 1970s until it was finally replaced by the M886 and M893 vehicles which were based on Dodge commercial type pickup trucks.
