Among the final Mercedes-Benz to be made in the 1950s, this 190 SL is finished in Medium Blue with a cream leather convertible top and interior. It features a driver’s side mirror, colour-matched hub cabs, leather seats, a glovebox-mounted clock, Becker Mexico radio with Hirschman antenna, and driver and passenger sun visors.
As documented on its Mercedes-Benz Vehicle Data Card, this example left the factory in Light Blue (DB334) with a cream leather interior. Originally delivered through a dealer in New York, this Mercedes-Benz was imported into the United Kingdom in 2015 before passing to the current collection.
This SL underwent a “body-off” restoration with Bruce L. Adams of Sports Leicht Restorations between 1997 to 2004. The car was resprayed from bare metal in the colour of Medium Blue, the drivetrain was rebuilt to factory specifications, the interior re-trimmed with tan seats and a new beige soft-top, while the chrome was refinished using quality copper, nickel, and chrome.
In 2015 the 190 SL underwent a $25,900 service at Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California. The valves were adjusted and compression tested, while checks were made on brakes, steering and suspension, as well as receiving replacement carpets. Presented with this 190 SL is a spare wheel with new tyre, a jack, and copies of its data card and restoration invoices.
