Manufactured from 1978 to 1981, the Lola T298 was part of Lola’s highly competitive T200 model series. The succession of race cars from the British constructor were initially developed in answer to FIA’s announcement of a new 2.0-litre European Championship class. Lola would build 17 T298s, and they would go on to make their mark in 1980s racing. Indeed, the example offered here claimed victory at the 1981 24 Hours Le Mans in the Group 6 (Sports 2000) class, driven by Jean-Philippe Grand and Yves Courage. The model also won the French Group 6 Championships four out of five years between 1982 to 1986.
This 1978 T298, chassis number HU 94, was delivered new to Heini Mader Racing Components for the eventual Le Mans winner, Grand. The car was equipped from the factory with a BMW M12-7 four-cylinder engine and a Hewland FGA 400 Mk II gearbox. In its red, white, and blue Primagaz livery the Lola would sport the race number 31 in its earliest days. In 1982 and 1983, Grand would continue HU 94’s success by winning the French Group 6 Championships across both years. In 1983, HU 94 was sold to Henry-Paul Magnan who raced the car in hill climbs throughout 1984 to 1995.
Today, HU 94 wears its stunning 1981 Le Mans Primagaz red, white, and blue livery, proudly displaying number 31 on the front and side of the body. The BMW M12-7 engine was rebuilt and has since only run for approximately two hours; it is fitted to a Hewland gearbox. Presented with this T298 are FIA FIVA certificates, a spare body, 10 spare wheels, and a host of other spare parts.
Chassis number HU 94 represents a unique opportunity to acquire a rare and extremely successful Lola T298 with fabulous race history.
