Building on the success of the Ferrari 308 GTB, or Berlinetta (hardtop), Ferrari introduced the 308 GTS, or Spider (targa top), at the 1977 Frankfurt Motor Show. Over the course of the 1975 to 1980 production run Ferrari produced 3,219 examples of the 308 GTS. The car gained widespread notoriety starring in the TV show Magnum P.I. with actor Tom Selleck behind the wheel.
This 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS is presented in black with a removable targa top and pop-up headlights. The car rides on new Michelin XWX radial tires which are mounted on reconditioned factory Ferrari-branded five-spoke wheels. The Ferrari is powered by a 2.9-liter, 240-hp V-8 engine that is paired to a five-speed manual transmission. Recent maintenance on the Ferrari included a timing belt service. The interior is completed in black featuring bucket seats, Veglia instrumentation and Ferrari’s customary gated shifter. Additional interior features include power windows and air conditioning; as well as an Alpine AM/FM radio with cassette plus power antenna. Included with the car is the Ferrari toolkit, books, service records and a full size spare wheel and tire. This is reported to be a mostly original car with only sympathetic cosmetic restoration when necessary and MSD ignition.
