Hupmobile is known as one of the early originators of the motorcar crusade. After building their first car in 1909, Hupmobile became a worthwhile competitor in the crowded market. Hupmobile’s cars were always well-styled and their reliability was beyond question.

Hupmobile demonstrated their abilities with an entry in the 1932 Indianapolis 500 with a car called the “Hup Comet.” Veteran driver Russell Snowberger drove the Comet number 4 to an impressive fifth place finish behind some imposing specialty-built racecars in a race won by Fred Frame. Hupmobile was a well-established player, but internal management disputes the following year began the decline that would see the once proud company fall to the pages of history by 1940. This street rod is a wonderful reminder of the marques presence .

Finished in what is described as “British Racing Green,” this Hupmobile has ghost flames and a tan custom interior that has a four-bucket seat seating arrangement divided by a custom console. Powered by a 500-cid V-8 engine with Cadillac valve covers and paired to an automatic transmission, the Hupmobile features a rear-mounted spare with cover, dual sport mirrors, five-spoke custom wheels, “suicide” doors with no handles, keyless entry, tilt steering column, teardrop headlights, cruise control, front power seats, power antenna and a CD player. Air conditioning, power steering and power brakes contribute to the road-going enjoyment in this uncommon and stylish machine.
