Ford’s Model A, introduced in December 1927, had been a big success. It surged the automaker past Chevrolet in 1929 to regain sales leadership. For 1930, a gentle restyling was undertaken, giving the car a bolder look, yet a lower center of gravity. The hood and radiator were raised, the latter’s shell now of stainless steel. Wheel size was reduced to 19 in., making the car lower, while wider tires gave a better ride. The higher cowl also resulted in a larger fuel tank.

Minor changes were made for 1931, including an accent of body color on the stainless steel radiator shell and one-piece splash shields for the running boards. A new instrument panel was adopted in April of that year. Body styles continued from 1930, with the addition of a new 400-A Convertible Sedan.

This 1931 Model A Style 45-B Standard Coupe is painted correct Chicle Drab and Copra Drab, with Straw pin striping and wheels. The seat is correct brown checked cloth, with leather in the rumble seat. The blackwall tires are representative of the way most Models of the era were delivered. The engine compartment is clean, but not excessively detailed. Although used very little in recent years, the car runs and drives well. The restoration, though now of considerable years, presents nicely and would be welcome on any local event.

Model A Fords have remained among the most popular of collector cars. This one is correct and attractive, and will be sure to please a new owner.
