  • An ideal cruiser, with factory front disc brakes
  • 300-horsepower “Z-Code” V-8
  • Wonderful period colors and accessories

300 bhp, 390 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine with four-barrel Holley carburetor, three-speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension with upper and lower A-arms and coil springs, live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension, and hydraulic front and rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 113 in.

For its fourth generation, beginning in the 1964 model year, the Ford Thunderbird adopted handsome and elegant new streamlined styling, on essentially the same chassis as in previous years, with a standard 300-horsepower V-8, power steering, and power brakes. Dubbed by enthusiasts “the Flair Bird,” the new model remained in production through 1966, and gradually adopted several new, special features, including, for 1965, front disc brakes and sequential turn signals. These had been planned for initial introduction in 1964 but had been delayed until the following year.

The 1965 Thunderbird Convertible offered here has been restored in a bright and spectacular cherry red with white accents and a white interior. Best described as “fully accessorized,” it boasts a full complement of the best features that a young man would have added to his new Thunderbird “back in the day” after a visit to the local Western Auto or Sears counter. These include a Sport Roadster-style tonneau cover, an extended continental kit rear-mounted spare, chrome wire wheels shod in whitewall radial tires, dual spotlights, and a factory AM radio and heater. Under the hood is the correct 300-horsepower “Z-Code” V-8 engine, surrounded by correct factory stampings for an authentic presentation. The odometer, at the time of cataloguing, recorded 65,225 miles.

A perfect automobile for the Woodward Dream Cruise or any other local cruising event, this car will bring back wonderful memories of malt shops and drive-in theatres for its new owner.
