300 hp, 390 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine with four-barrel carburetor, three-speed automatic transmission, front independent and rear leaf spring suspension, and four-wheel power-operated drum brakes. Wheelbase: 113 in.

Designed by Elwood Engel, the 1961–1963 Ford Thunderbird sported attractive new styling, with pointed front fenders, blade-like tailfins, large circular taillights, and unadorned curved flanks. Extremely fine build quality, a hallmark of Ford Motor Company during this era, included extensive use of rubber bushings on the coil-spring independent front and leaf-spring suspension, making the Thunderbird one of the quietest, best-riding automobiles of its time.

The new Thunderbird was available in several different body styles, among them the “let’s-go-adventuring” Thunderbird Convertible, of which only 7,030 were made in 1962.

The Thunderbird Convertible offered here has been refinished in Corinthian White, but it retains its original, well-preserved Turquoise interior. Equipped with a power top and side windows, AM radio, heater, and automatic transmission, it shows 77,741 miles at the time of cataloguing and remains a clean and well-kept driver, including the finishes under the hood, which is presentable but not fully detailed. It would be ideal for Antique Automobile Club of America tours, as well as local cruise-ins and shows in the summer months. These are well-known to be superb highway automobiles and outstanding “cruisers.”

Today, the “Bullet Birds” are one of the most popular Thunderbird generations, revered for their smooth performance that matches their elegant appearance; they are considered one of the styling landmarks of their generation, and their build quality is outstanding. This example offers the new owner a chance to understand what all the fuss is about!
