Introduced in 1957, the Fiat 500 quickly gained popularity throughout Italy as their answer to the people’s car. It featured a classic design offered in unique colors, and its small size made it perfect for city travel. Shortly after its release, then Fiat chairman Gianni Agnelli was in search for an open car to utilize when vacationing in the Mediterranean on his 82-foot ketch, the Agneta. He commissioned Ghia to build a car to suit his needs. Ghia referred to their design as “Jolly de Plage” which translates to “Joker of the Beach.” The car was an instant hit, leading Agnelli to work with Ghia for a limited production run of the Jolly. The widespread appeal of the Jolly is evident with the long list of notable people who owned one including United States President Lyndon B. Johnson, who enjoyed his Jolly at his Texas ranch. The cars have become increasingly collectable in recent years.

This 1960 Fiat 500 Jolly is presented in a beautiful light shade of green with accenting chrome trim and a color matched surrey top. The car benefitted from a full restoration roughly twenty years ago and continues to show very well today. It’s powered by a rear-mounted 479-cc, 16.5-hp two-cylinder air-cooled engine which is paired to a four-speed manual transmission. The interior is completed with wicker seats featuring white leather seat covers and tan carpet. A modern stereo with CD player has been fitted to so occupants can easily listen to their favorite music.
