Chevrolet’s advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald, cleverly advertised the 1967 Corvette as “A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing” as well as “A Good Second-Hand Car,” referring to the Corvette’s 0- to 60-mph performance against the stop watch. Long considered to be the pinnacle evolution of the iconic Sting Ray, the 1967 model was the last of the C2 Corvettes. The styling team of Peter Brock, Bob Veryzer, Tony Lapine, Chuck Pohlman and Larry Shinoda, under the direction of Bill Mitchell, was responsible for notable refinements such as flat finish rocker panels sans ribbing, a new single backup light mounted above the license plate and distinctive six-inch slotted ‘Rally Wheels,’ although cast aluminum factory wheels were an optional choice for $263.20. Sources show that only 720 Corvettes were ordered with these wheels, and they are seen on this example.
In 1967 Chevrolet created one of the most sought after collectable Corvettes. This spectacular 427/437 roadster, is restored and exhibits Marina Blue paint with black interior and a big-block hood, which is synonymous with this production year. It comes equipped with a Tri-power 427-cid, 435-hp V-8 engine with N14 dual side-exhaust pipes carrying the deep rumble of the engine. The car has a four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes. The interior is tailored with black contour bucket seats, AM radio, K66 transistor ignition, N89 cast aluminum bolt-on wheels C07 auxiliary removable hardtop, G81 Posi-traction with 3.70:1 gears, convertible top and center console.
Chevrolet produced 22,940 Corvettes this model year, only 3,754 were equipped with the 427/435 option. There were 3,840 Corvettes that left the factory in Marina Blue. Along with its tank sheet, this Corvette has received NCRS Top Flight status in 2008. It also can claim Bloomington Gold, gold certified in 2008; ChevyVetteFest Gold Concours 2008 and ChevyVetteFest Triple Crown in 2008. The car is reported to have been a part of the Piggly Wiggly grocery family at a prior time in its life.
