The Corvette body was bulked up for 1958, including the then-obligatory quad headlights, a look that would remain in large part through 1960. The 1958 model was three inches wider and ten inches longer and weighed about 100 pounds more than the 1957 version. The dashboard was redesigned and the instruments were properly placed in front of the steering wheel. Designed by the legendary Harley Earl and re-engineered by the famed Zora Arkus Duntov, the Corvette developed into a formidable competitor on the track as well as America’s favorite sports car. The disappearance of Ford’s two-seat Thunderbird in 1958 left Chevrolet alone in the production of two-seat sports cars. Along with many improvements and more powerful engines, production increased to 9,168 for the model year. At $2,793.00 before options, this was Chevrolet’s most expensive model.

Wearing Signet Red with White coves, this Corvette sports a black interior and the optional four-speed manual transmission ($215.00) and powerful 283-cid, 245-hp V-8 with dual four-barrel carburetors ($150.00). It is optioned with whitewall tires and an aftermarket AM/FM stereo radio with cassette player all of which makes for an excellent driver example of an iconic motorcar.
