The brand of Mercedes-Benz has always carried the allure of a fine automobile, but this legend is even more expanded when one considers that the German marque made a name for itself across many diverse venues. Whether it’s the formal elegance of an evening at the opera, or turning fast laps on a race track in a competitive event, the Mercedes-Benz name has found itself at home on many different fronts.

Certainly the 600 Pullman can be at the top of the first category, while the legendary 300SL can be looked at as the definition of a Grand Touring racecar. Mercedes-Benz also developed fine cars for the open road and everyday use; this 220SE convertible (cabriolet) is a model that clearly displays the great road fashion associated with the brand. The 220SE features great handling while offering a style that is considered by most to be gorgeous from any angle. With its unitized body and frame construction and fully independent suspension; it was touted as a machine that handled as well as it looks.

The 220SE convertible that is offered here is reported as an absolutely stunning example of this acclaimed touring car; possibly even, one of the best with the odometer showing just over 66,200 actual miles. Finished in a soft-gray tone with a black soft-top, its classic lines are nicely accented by color-keyed factory hubcaps and tastefully sized whitewall tires. The body is reported as being “straight as an arrow,” plus all of the chrome and trim elements are in excellent condition. This three-pointed star rides proudly atop its classic grille design and its vertically stacked four headlight design set the stage for the definitive elegant presence.

The interior is beautifully presented in black leather, with a nicely finished tiger maple wood dash and center console. A stylish clock is dash-mounted and is flanked by the original AM/FM radio. In addition, the car is reported as having the rare four bucket seat option. The power is derived from a Bosch fuel-injected 2.2-liter overhead camshaft, inline six-cylinder rated new at 134-hp and is mated to an automatic transmission. In spectacular condition, this 220SE has dedication to authenticity that ranks it near the pinnacle for the ultimate touring experience.
