This uncommon Barracuda Gran Sport received a full frame-off restoration in 2005, and it has rarely been driven since completion. The Plymouth was stripped down to bare metal and all of the panels were free of any rust or deterioration, quite typical of a California car such as this. The body is very straight and with that, it also displays very nice fitting of the panels. It is finished in Bahama Yellow, more commonly known as “butterscotch” and the vinyl top and interior is a brown tone creating a very balanced presentation.
According to records, only 1,615 Barracuda Gran Coupes were produced in the 1971 model year. This particular car is powered by a 383-cid V-8 engine that is mated to a rebuilt console-shift automatic transmission. It has been upgraded to a four-barrel carb and dual exhaust that is reproduction Mopar spec. The horsepower is rated at 315 and the car is accompanied by its dyno sheet. The Gran Coupe also has a new radiator and fuel tank. The interior features a rare overhead “consolette”, bucket seats, air conditioning and AM radio. The Gran Coupe platform included, in addition to the base package, the overhead console, pedal trim, leather seats and formed headliner. On the exterior are wheel trim moldings and Gran Coupe badging. The Broadcast Sheet is also included in the sale.
