Characterized as being an unrestored survivor and garage-kept since new, this Galaxie 500XL is readily noticed. Other than the fender skirts being repainted in 2013, the car is original with 19,613 miles. The Ford was ordered with the 352-cid Thunderbird Special V-8 and is matched to a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission that is console-mounted and has a T-handle gear selector.
The car is in its original Silver Blue Metallic and the Galaxie has the sport interior finished in a complementary blue tone that features bucket seats and center console. The rear seats are also designed in a bucket-style. Further equipment seen on the 500XL are power steering, AM radio with rear speaker option, back-up lights, clock, twin exterior mirrors and dual spotlights. Whitewall tires were a factory option and this example is fit with factory full wheel covers.
The Galaxie was assembled at the Mahwah, New Jersey facility at sold new on November 5, 1964 at King’s Ford Sales in Essex, Maryland. The 500XL is being offered by the son of the original owner and comes with thorough documentation that includes the sending dealer label, owner’s manual and warranty/owner card.
The Ford is original except for maintenance that occurred to replace tires, belts, hoses, plug wires and rework the brakes. The four-barrel Autolite carburetor was rebuilt in 2012, making for a fine running machine that is quite pure in most areas. The original plug wires are found with the car.
