This car began as a SS 396 Chevelle, but other than the gorgeous and straight original body, everything is new. The metal work is a “work of art,” and many hours have been spent on the complex bends and precise weld beading associated with the hood, interior and trunk. Al Bergler did the majority of this work; the original builder of the car was Pete Seaton, a famous drag racer from the 1970s.

Power comes from a fresh 396-cid V-8 engine that has an aggressive hydraulic camshaft that contributes to a great engine note and helps smooth and firm gear changes with its “bullet-proof” GM Turbo 350 automatic transmission. The engine is also fitted with a new Demon carburetor that helps the car to run “better than ever.”

The quality of the work is evident, and this is further seen by the beauty of the car’s undercarriage. The rear end is completely independent set-up from a late-model Corvette. Because of the four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, this Chevelle is said to be an absolute pleasure to drive with no problematic handling issues that can occasionally be associated with certain street rods. Brakes are high-quality four-wheel discs by Girlock and are fit with fresh pads. There is some small areas that need paint attention in the roof drip rails area.

The interior is completely custom and shows the same high level of quality as the rest of the car; including a full rear seat even though the rear is “tubbed” to accommodate 18-inch tires. AutoMeter gauges are utilized in the dash. The interior work was executed by Portage Trim in Ohio.

The car is reported to be a great driver and performs well in hot, traffic-congested situations. The Chevrolet is stored, when not in use, in a climate-controlled environment.
