Through the years, Ford has produced many high-performance versions of the Mustang, including the Cobra, Mach 1 and Bullitt, but most enthusiasts recognize that the original factory-tuned high-performance Mustang was the Boss 302, produced in 1969 in combination with the racecar that competed in the SCCA Trans-Am series of the era. The production run of the Boss 302 was short in duration; by winning the 1970 Trans-Am Championship, it became a nationally recognized performance car. After 42 years, Ford decided to revive the moniker, creating the most responsive Mustang ever, one that is reported to be able to go head-to-head with the best sports cars in its class on the market.

This Mustang is instantly recognizable as a Boss thanks to the C-stripe running across the side body panels, replicating the look of the original car designed by the legendary Larry Shinoda. The Boss 302 with the Laguna Seca package offers extra performance that makes it an effective “racecar” for street use. You first notice the immense front splitter; other striking cues include its rear wing, factory custom red-and-black paint job, charcoal interior with red seat logos, plus red with polished highlight wheels that enhances it look as a serious racer, all the while the Laguna Seca Boss 302 is a street legal machine.

The Mustang runs with a 302-cid (5.0-liter) engine that is not the typical Mustang Ford V-8. The powerplant has been factory reworked to produce 444-hp at 7,400-rpm. The Ford engineering team took the Mustang GT's V-8 and added a new intake system as well as high-lift cams, forged pistons, modified valves, sturdier valve springs, stronger rods and an oil cooler that resulted in 32 additional horsepower. This powerful unit is paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. The Laguna Seca package also features the rear seats being replaced by a sturdy brace that joins the structure between the rear wheels.

This very special example is serial number 10 for the first year of production availability. It is reported that only the first 50 cars had sequential Vehicle Identification Numbers and this car being number 10 is indeed worthy of notice. Only 750 examples were built, according to various sources. Along with having only 116 actual test miles without track time, this Laguna Seca package Mustang has its original invoice, window sticker price shows, books and owner’s manual and is still on its MSO, never registered. It is basically a brand new car that has been responsibly stored in a climate controlled facility for the past three years. The optional TracKey has never been programmed, making the warranty intact, according to the owner.

The TracKey is an additional ignition key, distinguished by a special red logo. It activates the control module software that's installed by the dealer after an owner takes delivery. When firing the engine, this key activates adjustments with variable cam timing, spark maps, engine braking, fuel control and approximately 400 other performance parameters to provide a complete racecar-type calibration. Among the equipment features are Boss Package floor mats, Boss Interior Package, Boss Package car cover, air conditioning, radio; power windows, steering and Brembo four-wheel disc brakes.
