Having been completed in this form for approximately 15-years, this Mercury convertible is a total custom from the front to the rear bumper, and it was built in a well-done manner with nicely applied quality. There were only 6,625 similar cars built in period and their survival rate is recognized to be quite low in numbers.

This car has been put together with a 355-cid V-8 engine that has been bored and honed to .030 over with polished pistons and crank and is matched to a Chevrolet Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and a 1974 Camaro 10-bolt rear end. The engine bay has been fit with a number of chrome, stainless and color-matched components. Other mechanical features include front disc brakes, power steering, deep tone mufflers, Lokar shifter, lake pipes and a flamethrower in the form of a coil and spark plug being strategically placed on the tailpipe.

The custom white interior has a split power front seat from a 1978 Mercury, a chrome 1949 Mercury dashboard, custom tilt steering wheel, stereo with cassette player, solenoid activated doors and trunk. The door button is placed in the grille and the glovebox houses the trunk release.

The custom Mercury is presented in a very deep purple with many layers applied and rubbed out properly for a beautiful and smooth application. The top has been chopped 4.5-inches and is spread to the glass. The Merc has power windows, the quarter panels have been extended 18-inches, and the hood has been pancaked. Other features include Lucas headlights, 1962 Buick taillights, full custom skirts, Continental kit, dual spotlights and many other details throughout. The car is reported to run and drive “very nicely,” and it has only 8,000 miles driven since the car was completed in 1999.
