Chevrolet’s renowned Corvette retained its proven chassis and drivetrain for 1958, but the styling was extensively freshened in keeping with General Motors’s other lines that year. It featured the newly popular quad headlights, a hood with decorative stamped faux “washboard” louvers, and a rear deck lid with a pair of long chrome “tusks.” Further, the cockpit was redesigned to be more ergonomic, with all instruments moved ahead of the driver, and a grab bar was installed for the passenger’s use during hard cornering manuevers, emphasizing the Corvette’s high-performance capabilities.

The 1958 Corvette offered here is finished in the beautiful color scheme of Silver Blue with Inca Silver coves, black interior, and black top, courtesy of a restoration completed in previous ownership. Invoices are on file for some of the improvements undertaken for the prior owners between 2003 and 2005. It is equipped with the 245-horsepower version of the 283-cubic-inch V-8 engine, with dual four-barrel carburetors, hydraulic valve lifters, and accompanying 5,200-rpm tachometer, controlled through a four-speed manual transmission. The engine presently installed is, by its block code, a replacement unit originally installed in a Chevrolet passenger car. The interior features a Wonderbar radio converted to modern operation, as well as a heater/defroster.

Fit and finish throughout is still largely quite impressive and the car exhibits only gentle use and enjoyment since its acquisition by the current owners in 2005. They have now enjoyed it within their collection for 19 years.

A lovely and well-presented 1958 Corvette, this would be an eyecatching automobile on one’s favorite sunny route this winter, or enjoyable for cruise nights in the summer—the choice is solely up to the new caretaker.
