The year 1962 was significant for the Corvette, as America’s Sports Car dominated Sports Car Club of America competition, as well as being the final year of the original C1 configuration with its straight-axle chassis. The most potent examples were fitted with the fuel-injected engine, producing 360 horsepower.

According to the owner, a knowledgeable longtime collector of significant Corvettes, the example offered here was one of 246 1962 models built with competition-style brakes—the so-called “big brake” option, RPO 687—and is even rarer in being fitted with power windows and both hard and soft tops. Notably, the car retains its original fuel-injected engine—identified by the serial number suffix matching the chassis number, as well as the correct date-coded casting numbers—and its original transmission, as well as the correct “big brake” air scoops and block-off plates.

The car was the final project of the late Dale Pearman, a noted National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) member and authority on the C1 Corvette. Dale had acquired a vast collection of new-old-stock C1 parts and used them in the restoration of this car which, following his passing, was completed by Ken Hansen. The Corvette received the Duntov Award no fewer than three times in NCRS judging, followed by Bloomington Gold Certification and, finally, Triple Diamond Certification at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN). Following its show career, the owner recounts that only maintenance miles have been clocked, and accordingly the car still remains in pristine and show-worthy condition throughout. It is accompanied by a collection of its judging sheets copies from the present ownership, with the owner noting that most all demerits have since been corrected.

Boasting superb provenance and excellent authenticity, as confirmed by its honors at the highest levels of Corvette competition, this example is offered from the collection of a longtime, devout enthusiast and student of the model. It is surely among the finest to be found, and awaits presentation by a new owner at any number of events in the show season to come.
