425 bhp, 426 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, torsion bar independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 117 in.

The National Hot Rod Association’s vaunted Super Stock class is for highly modified cars that appear, at first blush, to be ordinary passenger cars. During the heady days of the 1960s, Chrysler marketed option packages for Plymouth and Dodge that met the criteria for Super Stock and allowed a competitive drag-racing machine to be ordered directly from a local dealer. Engine blocks were specially selected for close tolerances and built up with forged pistons and unique manifolds. A transistorized ignition system used special wires and coil. Sound deadening and accessories were minimized throughout, and 10-inch drums were used for the front brakes as a weight-saving measure. Automatic transmissions were modified heavy-duty TorqueFlites. All Super Stock Dodges were finished in plain White at the factory, though that merely served as the blank canvas for other colors and designs chosen by original owners.

The 426 Race Hemi-powered Super Stock Dodge Coronet 440 offered here was scheduled for production at Lynch Road on 12 February 1967, meeting a special order from Reseda Dodge of Reseda, California. Its specifications included, of course, single-tone White paint, a black interior with split front bench seat and heater delete, and a 4.86:1 Sure Grip rear axle. These specifications were confirmed as original for this car by historian Galen Govier for former owner Jon Delli Priscoli in 1993. Priscoli was followed by Larry Eudy of Riverside, California, and Jack Hein of Waterloo, Iowa. It then joined Jack Brundage’s prominent muscle car collection and was fully restored by Muscle Car Restorations of Wisconsin in 2004.

Restored to correct colors and specification, it has excellent paint and brightwork. The interior is as-new, as is the engine compartment, which is carefully detailed without being overdone. There is no radio, no heater; the sold convenience option is a remote control mirror on the driver’s door. Blackwall tires are mounted on steel body-color wheels. The 19,580 miles showing on the odometer are believed original, and the engine has been treated for long-term storage after rebuilding. A dossier of documentation is included with the car.
