Of the 22,129 Corvette Coupes built in 1969, only 2,722 customers paid the $437.10 option price for the coveted big-block 427-cid, 435-hp V-8 L71 Turbo-Jet engine with three two-barrel carburetors. Of this small number, the owner reports that his research indicates that only 21 435 horsepower cars received the automatic transmission like seen in this Monza Red with black interior car.
