The 1957 Cadillac lineup presented a new sleekness in every line. They were almost three-inches lower in overall height than their predecessor. A lower hood, new flush-joining of the rear deck and quarter panels and the general rooflines of the coupes and raised-top convertibles added further to the road-hugging appearance of the cars. New-for-1957 swifter fender lines sweep back from extended headlight bezels that culminated in the new and sharply designed stabilizer-type version of the famous Cadillac rear fender fins. The impressively lower height of the 1957 Cadillac is equally evident when viewed from the front, side or rear.

The Harley Earl led design team produced a beautiful car that is well-represented by this restored silver splendor. The convertible top is black (with matching boot) and the interior is leather and primarily black with white accents, the upholstery appears to be represented in original-type patterns. Powered by a 365-cid, 275-hp V-8 engine by Cadillac, the standard transmission for this luxury liner is the tried and true Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic. Many standards were included on this platform; among these were power seat (horizontal motion only), many lighting group standards, remote driver’s side rearview mirror, handsome, deep-contoured factory wheel discs, whitewall tires, windshield washer; power steering, brakes, windows and top. The interior has an AM radio with center-placed front speaker, plus there is the owner’s manual, spare tire, jack, lug wrench and Cadillac air pressure gauge.

When this was a new car; the Cadillac was recognized as always being an inspiring companion and source of wondrous comfort and pleasure. Wherever your journey may carry you, the owner of this fine machine knows that his Cadillac introduces him with a special eloquence and introduces him as an individual of substance, character and good taste. Time cannot erase the pure luxury this car represents when new and now - sixty years on.

In 1979 a collector's guide to convertibles estimated that of the 9,000 Series 62 Convertibles built in 1957, that only 120 were then known to exist. More may have been found and rescued since then, but regardless, this is a very uncommon car and special in many ways.
