Plymouth introduced the GTX in 1967. The car was based on a Belvedere with the Sport Satellite trim. It was branded the “Gentleman’s Musclecar.” After only one year, the GTX was given a completely new look with the rigid design of 1967 giving way to the more flowing lines of the 1968 model. The GTX was offered in two body styles, a two-door hardtop or a two-door convertible. For the 1968 model year Plymouth produced 17,914 examples of the GTX two-door hardtop.
This 1968 Plymouth GTX has been frame-off restored. It is presented in code B5 Blue with an accessory black vinyl top. The car is powered by the respected and desirable 440-cid, 425-hp V-8 engine nicknamed the “440 six-pack” for having three two-barrel carbs. The nicely detailed engine is paired to a pistol grip four-speed manual transmission. The transmission sends power to a Dana rear end featuring a 4.10:1 gear ratio and posi-traction. The interior of the car is completed in black with woodgrain trim on the center console dash fascia and door panels. The interior setting features room for three or four additional passengers, plus a radio and black vinyl bucket seats separated by a console. The car rides on Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires mounted on aftermarket Torq Thrust-style wheels.
