Ford developed the Thunderbird to have a car in their lineup to compete with Chevrolet’s Corvette. The Thunderbird made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. In 1955 the Thunderbird went on sale. The car was very well received and amazingly outsold the Chevrolet Corvette twenty-three to one. Minor changes were made to the car in 1956. In 1957 the Thunderbird received a new front bumper and grille design as well as larger tailfins. Engine power was also increased for 1957. The 1957 Thunderbird marked the last year of the first-generation Thunderbird.

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird is a beautiful example presented in red with a red interior, with a matching factory hardtop with porthole window. This car has a very nice older restoration. It’s powered by a V-8 engine coupled to a floor-shift three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The interior features the Town and Country radio, clock, heater and aftermarket air conditioning. The car rides on whitewall tires mounted on Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. Additional features on the outside of the Thunderbird include dual sideview mirrors and fender skirts to partially hide the rear wheels in the never-ending search for style.
