Every decade has its style icons; in the ‘60s, none aged nearly as well as the Mercedes-Benz W113 series of two-seat roadsters. The W113 was the original “car as accessory.” It was expensive and impractical enough to demonstrate one’s wealth, but it was also small and peppy enough for easy motoring through city traffic. It was sporty enough to be fast and fun to drive, and it was also comfortable enough to be luxurious and fit in well to almost any social setting. A universal car of style and flair, the W113 was always appropriate for any occasion, and it had the unique ability to make anyone look good in it. The 280SL was the most popular W113, with 23,885 of them being produced.

The particular 280SL being offered has been with its current owner for 18 years and has been restored. This included being repainted, new interior and carpet, plus the engine was rebuilt at the 66,000 mile mark. It is quite stylish in its Silver Metallic finish with red interior and red and black pinstripe accents. The 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower and this unit is matched to an automatic transmission. Among the equipment you will find both the soft-top and removable hardtop, AM/FM radio, which we are told is a Becker and a Nardi steering wheel. Service and restoration receipts accompany the Mercedes-Benz. Bucket seats, an unassuming wood console, wheel covers with the star emblem, conservatively-sized whitewall tires and power four-wheel disc brakes are also part of this esteemed German-built package.
