Massive and impressive both succinctly describe this Type 3 Packard dually flatbed truck. It is a restored example that was an AACA National First Prize Winner in 1988 and still looks nicely preserved and in eye-catching colors. The Packard has an open cab and runs with an inline four-cylinder engine with a manual transmission and the rear differential carrier also has Packard script cast into the metal housing. Stoutly constructed wood spoke wheels have solid tires and are utilized on this (according to data tag on vehicle) 8,000 pound chassis that has a 16,000 pound weight limit.

Among the features are a driver’s side brake handle, a Model M4A “Stewart Warning Signal” made by Stewart-Warner, lap-joint rear deck with the boards at least one-inch thick, Dietz carriage lights, wood running boards, cycle-type fenders, metal flooring sections, wood lathe cabin roof, passenger’s side running board toolbox and an all-business grille guard.

The trailer is built by Troy Wagon Works of Troy, Ohio, and it has four-wheel steer and couplings at both ends. The finished wood deck on the wagon matches that on the truck flatbed in both thickness and color. Additionally there are wood spoke wheels, lockable stowage box and robust leaf springs that are set up to carry the big loads that this Packard was familiar with in period.
