This is a truly unique classic 1940s era Allan Herschell carousel that is the only antique carousel that is completely powered by solar energy. Over 40 solar panels and a battery system makes this apparatus 100-percent green and off-line. The panels’ sleek and durable design allow it to withstand most extreme weather conditions, including high temperatures, humidity and UV rays. The panels are mounted on portable frames for ease of transport.

This carousel was bought and rebuilt by General Electric at a cost in excess of $1 Million in 2011, and the Carousolar Carousel debuted at South by Southwest (SXSW) and traveled the country promoting 100-percent Green energy and solar panel use following SXSW.

The portable Allan Herschell carousel was completely redesigned and engineered to run on solar power using GE’s CdTe thin film solar panels. It can; however, easily be converted to run back on regular electricity. It is an impressive 36 feet in diameter, and it features three rows of horses, 30 in total with 2 chariots and 2 chickens. The horses are all original from the 1920s and 1930s.

The frame of the carousel is trailer-mounted. The animals and trim comes fully-racked in a 24-foot 2005 International 4300 diesel box truck with lift-gate, plus air-ride seat and suspension. The carousel itself is completely portable with the truck and trailer-mounted frame. The 2005 International has been maintained by GE Fleet. It also has dual fuel tanks, a DT466 diesel engine, six-speed automatic transmission, air brakes, air conditioning, custom made belly storage boxes for the carousel parts and also a custom hitch to pull the carousel trailer.

Carousolar also features over one-third mile of TETRA Contour LED light strips and benefits from a service in 2012 by noted expert Dan Horenberger after completing a country wide tour. It is brought up to state carousel specifications and requirements and includes all new greaseless bearings and all new stirrups.

The carousel was featured in a national ad campaign promoting green solar energy all around the country, and it is painted white to promote the “clean” of clean energy. There is not another carousel like this worldwide; a truly unique machine.
