The story on this car starts in Washington where it was purchased new. From there it is said to have been put through a ditch; this being the believed reason the car has been repainted. After this minor incident, the car was put into storage where it is believed to have been for many years. There is a copy of an invoice from October 28, 1970 for towing and storage of the Superbird at Evans Chrysler and Plymouth in Wenatchee, Washington. The mileage stated on the invoice then was 3,347. The next piece of information on the car is a registration from 1984 in Chelan, Washington. Next is an insurance policy renewal on December 3, 1992. The owner then was from Portland, Oregon.

Chrysler’s strategy to beat Ford on the superspeedways was to reduce aerodynamic drag. While the Charger 500 was an improvement, something more uncompromising was needed. In response, Chrysler released the aerodynamically inspired Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbird, igniting the “aero wars”. While Richard Petty did not win the 1970 Grand National championship, he did win 18 of Plymouth’s 21 victories in NASCAR’s 48-race season in 1970.

This Superbird is has been cosmetically restored with new paint. The interior, vinyl top and carpet are reported to be original to the car. It is powered by a highly detailed 440-cid V-8 engine that is fueled by a four-barrel carburetor and connected to a console-shifted automatic transmission. The interior features bucket seats, AM radio, tachometer and remote mirror. The car is riding on Goodyear Polyglas tires. The original tires are said to come with the vehicle; along with both factory jacks. This exciting Superbird is ready to take its next owner back in time.
