In 1958, Chevrolet introduced the 348 cubic inch “Turbo Thrust” engine, Chevy’s second-generation V-8. It was called the “W” engine, referring to the shape of its valve covers. The original thought for this engine was to install it in trucks because of the massive amount of torque that it produced; but it was soon realized that in a passenger car it could capitalize on the power even more. Eventually, it evolved into the legendary 409 cubic inch V-8.

This show stopping 1959 Chevrolet Impala has been graced with a no expense spared, nut and bolt restoration. It is finished with flawless Tuxedo Black paintwork that is highlighted by gleaming chrome and stainless trim. Matching the paint is a black Hartz cloth powered convertible top. The topping on the cake comes from the gorgeous tri-colored cloth and vinyl upholstery.

By 1959, car manufactures were seeing the value in offering additional options to compliment the base factory options that were equipped. This Impala is “loaded” with many desirable options that are not seen very often on these cars. The options include: power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, power windows, E-Z-I eye tinted glass, rare power seat, dual sun visors, front armrests, front fender ornaments, fender skirts with stone shields, dual rear antennas, AM radio and a clock. The heart of this Chevrolet is a rare Super Thrust Turbo 348 cubic inch, 280 horsepower V-8 engine equipped with three two-barrel carburetors and dual exhaust with chrome tips. Putting all this power to the whitewall tires is a Powerglide automatic transmission connected to positraction rear differential.
