In 1966, the all-new Chevy IIs delivered a razor-sharp restyle based on the earlier Super Nova concept car. The proportions flowed much better than the earlier cars while the overall dimensions were largely unchanged. The styling proved popular and interest in the top-tier Nova Super Sport spiked. Super Sports received all vinyl interior trim with optional bucket seats, electric clock, SS trim, and 6.95x14 black sidewall tires.

Ultimately 20,986 Nova Super Sport two-door Hardtop Coupes passed through showrooms and onto American roads. Of those premium Nova SSs only 5,481 lucky owners could lay claim to the legendary 350-hp L79 model. The secret of the L79 Nova SS was a high power-to-weight ratio. The sublime detailing of the Super Sport didn’t overtly advertise its 10 pounds per horsepower potency. With all that power and the ability to quickly push near 6,000 rpm, the little Nova SS surprised owners of larger-engined competitors.

This beautiful blue example has 17,000 documented original miles over very limited ownership. It boasts not only its original Protect-O-Plate, but its original chrome and impeccable original black interior with flawless dash, AM radio, bucket seats, and period-correct under dash gauges. It is fitted with proper white wall tires and SS wheel covers. Most significantly, this beautifully-presented L79 Nova SS includes respected Chevrolet historian Jerry MacNeish’s certification as an original L79 car still retaining its factory engine.
