Addendum: Carfax Reports Accident/Damage

The Mulsanne was introduced in 1981 and did very little to set it set apart from its Rolls Royce Silver Spur counterpart. Bentley decided to add a turbo charger to the existing Mulsanne model but the car was given mixed reviews. It wasn’t until 1987 when Bentley went back to the drawing board and revamped the Mulsanne completely by adding a new model to the line up all together. The Turbo R was introduced as a brand new true luxury sports saloon that was immensely capable at high speeds and offered a sublime suspension. The Turbo R (R for Roadholding) carried the familiar 6.75-liter but with an added Garrett turbo charger. The Bentley engineers also demanded the car have a 50% increase in roll stiffness over the current Mulsanne by upping the anti roll bar weights and increasing the damping. The car was introduced to the United States market in 1989 and was given immense praise by Motor Trend magazine stating, “the first Bentley in decades that deserves the name”. Although Rolls Royce/Bentley never officially released engine specifications, the car was believed to have 300 horsepower and 450 lbs-ft of torque propelling the near 3 ton juggernaut to 60 miles per hour in 6 seconds. The Turbo R was not only quick but also gave a superb well balanced ride. The car offered an outstanding blend of handling and ride but wrapped its occupants in true Bentley tradition. The Turbo R stands alone with its elegant yet aggressive looks and outstanding blend of performance and ride comfort.

This beautiful Turbo R Saloon left the Crewe production line in July of 1989 and was invoiced to Rolls Royce/Bentley North America. The car was then delivered to Steingold Bentley/Rolls Royce where it sold to its first owner in late 1989. The car then moved to Alabama with the second owner in 1995 who has had the car ever since European Motor Studio brought the car to Arizona. The Masons Black paint finish on the car is still in excellent condition showing a beautiful deep luster free from any major scratches, or defects (just a few tiny stone chips in the front of the nose). The body of the car is in outstanding condition and is laser straight and free from any damage, rust or corrosion. All of the chrome and exterior trim are still in excellent condition and free from any damage or fade (small ding on the front drivers side bumper guard). The Burgundy hides are all original and in beautiful condition with excellent patina to them. The driver and passenger seats show minimal wear and creasing but absolutely no heavy cracking, scuffing or tears at all. The backseats are in excellent condition showing no real signs of use and all of the carpets are in fantastic unstained condition. The headliner is stain and damage free as is the leather dash top, center console and door panels (small bit of leather just starting to peel back from the windshield). All of the wood veneer is in excellent condition showing almost no signs of wear (just a couple tiny hairline cracks) and all of the interior chrome and switchgear are in excellent unmarked condition. The 6.75-liter Bentley eight cylinder starts right up and idles beautifully without any issues. The car does not smoke under start up and does not smoke under acceleration. This Bentley shifts into gear with ease and accelerates through all of the gears without any issues. The cars steering is very solid and precise and does not drift, pull or vibrate at any speeds. The brakes feel very solid and responsive and do not show any signs of fade or squeaking. The suspension is very firm but smooth and free from any clunking or noises. The hydraulic rear end raises itself up as designed and keeps at a level ride height. The car has just had a full service including all of the plugs, injectors, brake accumulators and spheres, and the fluids and filter. All of the electronics are working as designed, the radio and power antenna, all four windows, the door locks, the power seats and heated seat warmers, the AC and heater, all of gauges, all of the interior lights and dash lights and all of the exterior lights are all working as designed. The factory Bentley chrome wheels are in outstanding condition and free from any curb rash or damage. The car has its original Bentley spare tire, jack and jack tools, original Bentley tool kit, and all of its original owners manuals, warranty books, service books which are stamped by the dealership Bentley keys and remote , and original seat foot rests. This is a beautiful Turbo R Saloon which came from a time where money was absolutely no object in the process of building and hand assembling cars. These are getting rarer and harder to come by in excellent condition that have been well looked after and maintained.
