Envious of the success that Ford was having with its car/truck Ranchero that debuted in 1957, Chevrolet countered with its new El Camino model in 1959. The name meant "The Road" in Spanish, and Chevrolet stressed its car-like platform and styling, which was combined with the functionality of a truck bed. Originally based on the Impala, the half car - half truck survived for only two years, but reappeared in 1964 based on the Chevelle line. In addition, this new El Camino shared most of its underpinnings and powertrains (including high performance engines) with the Chevelle. SS versions would debut in 1968 and firmly establish the El Camino as a muscle car/truck.

With a low survival rate, compared to most enclosed non-truck vehicles of the day, it is refreshing to find a quality example such as this El Camino. It is running with a rebuilt 350-cid V-8, a three-speed automatic transmission and 3.42 gears. The engine compartment is nicely accessorized with a polished aluminum intake, tube headers, polished aluminum valve covers, chrome alternator, billet pulley system, power steering and power brakes. Every area is well detailed, which resulted in a 1st place award at the 2007 San Dimas Truck Show. Other equipment includes Autometer gauges, bucket seats, console, tonneau cover and 17-inch American Racing Hopster wheels. A full ground-up restoration has allowed this Chevrolet to remain in excellent condition and ready to perform for generations to come.
