Oldsmobile introduced the Starfire in mid-1961; it was Oldsmobile's entry into the personal luxury market to compete with the torpedo Thunderbirds introduced in 1961. This model is considered as one of the most desirable convertibles of the era, and it is built on the Super Eighty-Eight's 123-inch wheelbase platform. These cars were the most luxurious, expensive and top-of-the-line Oldsmobiles of the early 1960s.

The list of standard equipment included a more powerful 394-cid V-8 engine, S4 automatic Hydra-Matic transmission, sports floor console with shifter and factory tachometer, courtesy lamp package, two-speed wipers, power brakes, power steering, distinctive brushed aluminum side trim, dual exhausts and leather trim. Other standard Starfire conveniences included power windows and bucket seats.

This sporty example is one of only 15 similar cars that was finished in Special Paint Code V1V – Chariot Red, and it has a white power convertible top, plus a two-tone black and silver interior with leather seats and desirable factory air conditioning. Among the additional elements are remote trunk release (vacuum operated, in glovebox), Safety Sentinel, factory clock, factory-spec AM radio with rear speaker, power antenna, fender skirts, factory deluxe wheel covers and whitewall tires conclude this thrilling presentation.

This special car is equipped with its original 394-cid high horsepower engine – the model was one of the first cars to offer luxury and performance in one package – it is now ready for the next owner to enjoy.

Oldsmobile sold a mere 7,149 convertible Starfires during the 1962 model year.
