Domination. We have seen it often in sport from individuals who take their performance to the next level to achieve results that highlight the record book forever. From Babe Ruth’s 1921 season as a New York Yankee to “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky’s 1981–1982 season for the Edmonton Oilers, individual efforts on the field of play can help lead a team to levels of greatness. In 2006, Kevin Harvick drove his way to one of the most dominant seasons in NASCAR Busch Grand National Series history, elevating his team to the pinnacle of the sport.

To say the 2006 season was a spectacular one for Harvick and his Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Team is a bit of an understatement. In 35 races dotted across America, Harvick finished in the top 10 in all but three races. An effort of 23 top-five results were highlighted by an impressive nine trips to victory lane. A single season that saw Harvick reach earnings of nearly three-million dollars made 2006 clearly a season for the ages.

As September came to an end, NASCAR invaded Kansas Speedway and once again it was Kevin Harvick taking the Saturday win on NASCAR weekend. This lengthened his stranglehold on the series championship standings to a margin of 729 points over 2nd place Carl Edwards. All Harvick needed to do was take the green flag of the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the 2006 NASCAR Busch Grand National Championship would be his. Amazingly, this October race would not mark the end of the NASCAR season. Harvick’s season-long command of the series created a chance to lock up the title with four races remaining on the schedule. With three laps to go, Casey Mears took the high line coming off of turn four, losing control and crashing into race leader Carl Edwards. Following the wreck, Edwards and Mears were unable to finish the race, and Dave Blaney took the checkered flag. With Edwards not finishing and Harvick securing a 9th place finish, Harvick clinched his title as 2006 Busch Series Champion in his #33 Dollar General Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

The car that clinched the 2006 title has been preserved by the Shalamar Foundation and is now on offer. It comes with a hand-written tag that confirms it was the car from the fall clinching effort in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Richard Childress Racing chassis, identified as “RCI 24,” is a chassis originally built in July of 2005. It is a high-performance vehicle that is specifically designed to race on 1.5-mile high banked race tracks such as Charlotte Motor Speedway. Powered by a General Motors SB2 engine that remains in operating condition, this speed machine is as original as they come. Inside the car sits Kevin Harvick’s custom-fitted aluminum ButlerBuilt racing seat that is marked for “Harvick.” Adding to the authenticity of this Monte Carlo steel-bodied race car is the paint damage and battle scars that confirm the authenticity of this car as the actual piece.

On a clear 50-degree night in Charlotte, Kevin Harvick put the stamp on one of the most dominant seasons in NASCAR history.
